Importance of Magnesium in the human diet

Magnesium is a required mineral and a cofactor for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the human body. It is the fourth most abundant mineral after calcium, potassium and sodium. Magnesium is required for DNA and RNA synthesis, cell growth and reproduction, adenylate cyclase synthesis, cellular energy production and muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. About 50-60% of the magnesium stored in the body is present in the bone, where it contributes to the structural development.
